2023 to now
Perform Data Track
An exam management platform for performing-arts awarding bodies: candidate entry, examiner marking and certificates in one system.
- Laravel 12
- PHP 8.2
- Livewire
- Alpine
- Tailwind
- MySQL
Organisations that award graded performing-arts qualifications all run the same pipeline: candidates are entered, grouped into exam sessions, marked by examiners, certificated, and kept on record. The smaller ones run it on PDF entry forms, spreadsheets and mail merge. Perform Data Track is my own software that replaces that pipeline with one system. I started it in February 2023 and still work on it.
What it does
- Multi-tenant by organisation, with schools underneath and learners underneath those. Each learner has an individual learner number, and new cohorts load in bulk from CSV.
- Sessions and exam groups organised by level and genre, the way the syllabus divides candidates. Each session tracks whether it is still editable, ready to mark or fully marked.
- Examiner marking in the system at the point of judgement: a grade, a total and written comments, with a live count of who is still unmarked.
- Certificates and feedback sheets generated as PDFs straight from the marks, so nobody retypes a candidate's name onto something they keep for life.
- Role-based access for administrators, teachers and examiners. People who hold more than one role switch between them in-session, because in a small organisation one person is often two of the three.
- Spreadsheet exports for every session, because somebody always needs one.
How it is built
Laravel 12 on PHP 8.2 with Livewire, Alpine and Tailwind, on MySQL. Permissions use spatie/laravel-permission, exports use PhpSpreadsheet, and the help centre content syncs from Notion so guidance can change without a deploy. It also installs as a progressive web app. The stack is deliberately conventional, so that someone other than me could maintain it.
